There is a specter haunting humanity, and that specter is capitalism, or specifically, neoliberal economics. You can look at the uprisings in Tunisia and Egypt as examples of people realizing exactly how horribly they have been cornholed for the past twenty years by this ideology. I know you are thinking that I’m just making this shit up, but if you look into the forces that have been organizing the revolutions in the Middle East, they are a) anticapitalist, and b) using techniques that were pioneered by left-wing organizations in the late 19th and 20th centuries but have been updated to the new media landscape. You absolutely can’t describe what’s gone on in Egypt and Tunisia as anything other than general strikes with revolutionary aims.
My desire for this project is to show that what those people are laying their lives and their bodies on the line for over there is something that we should fight for here. There can be no justice in an economic system that allows people to be disposable. There can be no legitimacy in a government that allows the ultrawealthy minority to determine policy at the expense of the majority. And there is no way that the existing system can survive without, in the very least, significant reform.
I’m going to try to update this every day, but it’ll happen at least twice a week.
